Hanover man charged in St. James club shooting

ST JAMES, Jamaica – A man was charged Thursday in connection with the shooting of an employee last month at a popular club in Montego Bay, St. James.

The suspect, Uriah ‘Joe’ Wilson, 21, of Mount Pelier, Hanover, was charged with wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon and use of a firearm to commit a criminal offence.

It was reported that the now injured man was at work around 10:40 am on April 5 when he was attacked by two men armed with firearms, who opened gunfire on him.

Haughton ran and fell, and the men fled the area in a waiting silver Toyota Axio car.

After the shooting subsided, the worker appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds. He was helped to Cornwall Regional Hospital by other staff who alerted police.

On April 9, 2024, the suspect was arrested by police during an intelligence operation. He was positively identified during a video identification parade on Monday.
