Japan and Brazil agree to promote biofuels and hybrid vehicles

BRASILIA, Brazil – Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva pledged Friday to deepen cooperation on decarbonization while setting out a framework to popularize biofuels and hybrid vehicles.

Kishida met Lula in Brazil, which is competing with China and India for leadership of the Global South – made up of emerging and developing countries that are increasingly assertive in the international community. Brazil is also this year’s chairman of the Group of Twenty Industrialized and Emerging Countries.
