Three plead guilty, jailed for drug trafficking – News Room Guyana



Three people recently arrested by members of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit were charged and convicted during their court hearing on Friday.

Oneal Deleon appeared before Magistrate George at the Lenora Magistrate’s Court where he pleaded guilty to possession of a narcotic drug for the purpose of trafficking 5.308kg of cannabis.

Deleon was sentenced to four years in prison and a $4.7 million fine.

Meanwhile, Bryan Edwards appeared before Magistrate Issacs at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to possession of a narcotic drug for the purpose of trafficking 53,480kg of cannabis.

Edwards was sent to jail until May 17, 2024 pending a probation report.

In addition, Leonard Caleb appeared before Magistrate Scarce at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court in relation to the charge of possession of a narcotic drug for the purpose of trafficking, namely 12,540kg of cannabis.

Caleb was sentenced to four years in prison and fined $11.2 million.
