Barcelona legend Rivaldo has expressed concern that Arsenal could miss out on Bruno Guimaraes this summer as Manchester City join the race for the midfielder.

With Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge appearing to falter once again, attention shifts to strengthening the squad in the coming transfer window. Midfield reinforcements are particularly crucial given the uncertainty surrounding the futures of key players such as Thomas Partey and Jorginho.

Recent reports suggest Arsenal are considering a move to reignite interest in Bruno Guimaraes, who impressed during his time at Newcastle. The Brazil international was previously a target for Arsenal when he joined Newcastle from Lyon two and a half years ago.

However, Rivaldo believes that if Guimaraes decides to leave Newcastle, he may prefer a move to Manchester City over Arsenal. Rivaldo told Betfair: “It is clear that nowadays everyone wants to play for Manchester City because they have Pep Guardiola and a very close and harmonious team. I believe that if Guimaraes leaves Newcastle, he will choose to join Manchester City.”

Despite potential competition from Manchester City, Arsenal have shown in the past that they are capable of securing top goals in midfield. Declan Rice chose Arsenal over City last summer. Rice has since made a significant impact in north London, and manager Mikel Arteta is confident that more can come from the talented midfielder.

Ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming match against Bournemouth, Arteta praised Rice’s contribution, saying: “He’s been great. He’s had such an impact from day one… He’s very enthusiastic, eyes open, ears open, very willing to learn and absorb information.”

Arteta stressed the importance of giving Rice more opportunities to showcase his talent and build team chemistry. Despite his young age, Rice has already shown maturity and composure on the pitch, and the Gunners will hope to see further development from the promising midfielder in the coming seasons.
