By Aaron Humes: The well-publicized problems of the citrus industry, namely reduced production and greening of citrus fruits, have apparently tempted some to try to import fresh citrus products such as orange, grapefruit and lime.

But with the exception of Tahiti lime from Mexico, according to the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) in a statement, the import of citrus as fresh fruit is currently not permitted and illegal importation and distribution of regulated agricultural products is being monitored. including citrus fruits.

The Authority states: “We remind all individuals and business establishments that possession of such goods is a violation of the BAHA Act and there will be strict enforcement of the penalties as prescribed in the BAHA Regulations, SI No. 34 from 2022. The public has also been reminded to apply for an import permit from BAHA prior to importing products regulated by the Authority.”
