Nigerian Football Federation outside Finidi George as new head coach

The Nigerian Football Federation has unveiled Finidi George as the new head coach of the country’s senior national team.

The 53-year-old signed a contract that will keep him at the helm for the next 24 months.

He is expected to help the West African team win the upcoming 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco following their final loss to Ivory Coast in the last edition.

George is not new to this position. He led Nigeria in international friendlies in March against Ghana and Mali, with one win and one loss (W1, L1).

He also spent twenty months on predecessor Jose Peseiro’s backroom staff.

As a player, he was instrumental in Nigeria’s AFCON-winning performance in 1994.
