Mohammed Salisu’s Monaco returns to the Champions League for the first time since the 2018/19 season

AS Monaco have secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League after last weekend’s victory.

The Ligue 1 team returns to the competition for the first time since the 2018/19 season.

Monaco defeated Montpellier in the league on Sunday evening to consolidate their second position in the table with just one match remaining.

Mohammed Salisu started and played the entire match, as they also managed to keep a clean sheet.

Salisu joined Monaco from Southampton last summer after the Saints were relegated to the Championship.

The Ghanaian defender has made 11 appearances in Ligue 1 this season, starting 10 and keeping two clean sheets.

He also has one assist to his name.

Now that a place in the Champions League has been secured, Salisu will play in Europe’s top club competition for the first time in his career.

Monaco will look to do better than last time out in their last outing, when they finished bottom of the group and failed to progress past the group stage.
