A surprise report from Spanish publication Fichajes today claims that Manchester United are interested in a shock transfer for three-time Champions League winner Keylor Navas.

The 37-year-old Navas will not renew his contract and has decided to leave Paris St Germain at the end of the season.

According to the report, Manchester United are among the teams keen to sign the Costa Rican, while the other competitors are Real Betis and Juventus.

Navas has no shortage of experience, leadership and quality and boasts an incredibly impressive CV that includes three consecutive Champions League medals with Real Madrid.

With 114 caps for Costa Rica, he is the country’s sixth most capped player to represent Loc Ticos since 2008.

He left Real Madrid for PSG in 2019 and cemented himself as the Parisian club’s starting goalkeeper before being relegated to the second tier two years later following the arrival of Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma.

If the reports are indeed true, both parties believe he would only take on a selection role as Onana’s understudy, although his experience and leadership would be extremely valuable in the dressing room.

A player with that winning experience and leadership could bring that important image and presence to the dressing room even if he doesn’t play regularly, and why not on a free transfer?

No player can say no when Manchester United calls and Navas may be open to another spell in the Premier League after his brief spell at Nottingham Forest last season.
