Former Newcastle star gets first job in England with north-eastern neighbours

Former Newcastle United man Nolberto Solano has recently been announced as the new manager of non-league side Blyth Spartans.

Solano became an icon in the regions for his performances in a black and white shirt and will hope to have a similar impact from the sidelines at his new club.

This is the first managerial role he has taken on in England, following a handful of spells in his native Peru, as well as in Canada and more recently with Swedish third division side AFC Eskilstuna.

Blyth were recently relegated from the National League North and will be hoping to rise straight away, so Solano certainly has his work cut out for him.

Although the appointment has been met with mixed reactions, Solano’s arrival will almost certainly help boost attendance, at least in the short term, when he returns to the Northeast.
